Individual Therapy That Helps You Move Forward
Practical, personalized online individual therapy for adults and clients 16+ throughout New Hampshire and Maine.
You don’t have to wait until life is falling apart to make a change.
Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, grief, anger, relationship difficulties, or a major life transition—or you simply know something isn’t working the way you want it to—therapy can help you understand what’s happening, what may be keeping it going, and what you can begin doing differently.
Something needs to change. You may just not know exactly what yet.
You may be doing everything you’re supposed to do and still feel anxious, exhausted, disconnected, frustrated, or stuck. Maybe you:
- Think through things endlessly but still struggle to feel confident about your decisions
- Keep putting everyone else’s needs ahead of your own
- Feel burned out, unmotivated, angry, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained
- Find yourself repeating the same patterns in relationships
- Know what you should do but can’t seem to consistently follow through
- Are dealing with grief, loss, a major transition, or an unexpected change
- Have a life that looks reasonably good from the outside but doesn’t feel quite right from the inside
- Simply know that you don’t want the next few years to feel like the last few
You don’t need to know the right diagnosis, have the perfect words for what you’re experiencing, or even know exactly where to begin. Part of therapy is helping you make sense of what’s happening and determine what would actually need to change for life to feel different.
What Can Individual Therapy Help With?
People rarely fit neatly into one category. Anxiety can affect relationships. Stress can turn into irritability. Grief can affect motivation. Low self-esteem can make it difficult to set boundaries or make decisions. Individual therapy gives us room to look at the whole picture—not just a diagnosis or one isolated symptom.
Anxiety & Overthinking
When your mind rarely shuts off, decisions feel harder than they should, or you’re constantly anticipating what could go wrong, therapy can help you understand the patterns driving the anxiety and develop more effective ways of responding to it.
Depression & Low Motivation
Depression doesn’t always look like being unable to get out of bed. It can also look like going through the motions, losing interest in things that used to matter, feeling disconnected, or knowing what you want to do but struggling to make yourself do it.
Stress & Burnout
When responsibilities keep piling up, it can become difficult to tell whether the problem is your workload, your boundaries, your expectations, or simply trying to sustain too much for too long. Therapy can help sort through what’s actually happening and what needs to change.
Grief & Loss
Loss can involve a death, relationship, career, identity, health change, or a future you expected but didn’t get. Therapy offers space to process what has happened while figuring out how to continue building a meaningful life around what has changed.
Life Transitions & Feeling Stuck
A new career, relationship change, move, retirement, becoming a parent, children leaving home—or simply realizing you aren’t sure what comes next—can create uncertainty even when the change is something you chose.
Anger & Emotional Reactivity
Anger itself isn’t necessarily the problem. The question is what triggers it, what happens next, and whether your responses are helping you build the relationships and life you actually want.
Self-Esteem, Boundaries & People-Pleasing
If you spend much of your energy worrying about what others think, avoiding conflict, saying yes when you want to say no, or questioning your own judgment, therapy can help you develop a stronger sense of yourself and practice responding differently.
Relationship Patterns
Even in individual therapy, relationships often matter. We can look at communication, conflict, attachment, trust, boundaries, loneliness, repeated relationship patterns, and how you show up with the people who matter to you.
You don’t have to decide which category fits you before scheduling. These concerns often overlap, and part of our work is figuring out how the pieces connect and where change is likely to make the biggest difference.
Therapy Should Be More Than a Place to Talk About What Happened This Week
Being heard and understood matters. Sometimes having a place to slow things down and talk honestly is exactly what you need. But if something in your life isn’t working, therapy should also help you understand why—and help you develop ways of responding differently.
At Action With Purpose, therapy is collaborative and practical. We aren’t looking for a one-size-fits-all answer or trying to tell you how you should live your life. We work together to understand the patterns affecting you, clarify what matters most, build useful skills, and turn insight into changes you can actually use outside the therapy session.
Understand What’s Actually Happening
We look beyond the immediate problem to understand the patterns, triggers, beliefs, relationships, habits, and circumstances that may be keeping it going. Sometimes the problem you’re trying hardest to solve isn’t actually the place where change needs to begin.
Clarify What Matters to You
Therapy isn’t about becoming the person someone else thinks you should be. We identify the relationships, priorities, values, and ways of living that matter to you so there is a clearer direction for the changes you’re trying to make.
Build Skills You Can Actually Use
Depending on what you’re facing, our work may include emotion regulation, distress tolerance, communication, boundaries, problem-solving, changing unhelpful thought or behavioral patterns, and learning to respond more intentionally when life gets difficult.
Put Change Into Practice
Insight matters, but understanding something doesn’t automatically change it. Therapy can become a place to experiment with new responses, notice what works, adjust what doesn’t, and gradually build patterns that are more sustainable outside the counseling room.
The goal isn’t to create a life without difficult thoughts, feelings, relationships, or circumstances. It’s to help you become increasingly capable of handling them while building more of the life you actually want.
Getting Started Is Simple
You don’t need to prepare a perfect explanation of what’s wrong before your first appointment. The initial session is a chance for us to understand what brings you in, what has been happening in your life, what you would like to be different, and whether working together feels like a good fit.
1. Choose a Time
View current availability online and request an appointment that works for you. You don’t need to call first
2. Complete Your Forms
After scheduling, you’ll receive access to the secure client portal. Completing your intake forms at least 24 hours before the appointment gives your clinician time to review them and prepare for the session,
3. Meet Online
Join your secure telehealth session from a private location in New Hampshire or Maine. We’ll start by understanding what is happening now and what you would like therapy to help you change.
You are not committing to months or years of therapy by scheduling a first appointment. The first step is simply having the conversation and deciding together what makes sense from there.
Using Insurance or Paying Privately
Cost matters when you’re deciding whether therapy is realistic and sustainable. Action With Purpose works with a number of insurance plans in New Hampshire and Maine, and self-pay is also available for clients who prefer to pay privately or whose insurance is not currently accepted.
Insurance participation varies by state, clinician, and plan. View the current insurance options for New Hampshire or Maine below, or contact us if you’re unsure whether your plan may be accepted.
Prefer to pay privately? Self-pay sessions are available, and limited sliding-scale options may be available depending on clinician availability.
